Wakatipu High School expansion project – 2020-2022
Wakatipu High School’s expansion, known as phase two, will deliver extensions to two teaching wings, a new double gym, a lecture room, and associated internal works to expand music and hard tech, such as wood and metal work.
The school moved to the Remarkables Park campus for the start of the 2018 school year. Ministry network projections indicate it is likely to reach its 1200-student capacity during 2021. This expansion will then allow Wakatipu High School to cater for up to 1800 students. This expansion has always been part of the overall plan for the school, and is being built to support growth in the catchment area.
Sixteen purpose-built temporary teaching spaces will also be delivered to the site prior to the major expansion works, to allow the work to take place with reduced disruption to teaching and learning. These classrooms are expected to be required on site until mid-2022. Work preparation on site is expected to begin in July 2020.
Key Dates As part of the development of a comprehensive programme to deliver this expansion to Wakatipu High School and its community, the following outcomes are currently planned to be delivered in phases over the next 2 years.
North Wing teaching extension Ready for Term 1 2022
South Wing teaching extension Complete during Term 2 2022
