Welcome to Students Against Sexual Harm, (SASH). We are a group of Wakatipu High School students with the goal of raising awareness about and reducing sexual harm among teenagers. Through this student group, we aim to raise awareness, educate students on the importance of consent and link students to information and support they might need.

Sexual assault can manifest in a wide range of contexts and scenarios, some of which are dismissed as insignificant by the society we live in, but can still have a significant impact on those who have experienced abuse. These events can occur between all combinations of genders and sexualities.

At SASH, we recognise the profound impact sexual assault can have on individuals and communities around New Zealand. We understand that the journey to recovery is unique for each person, the purpose of this website is to support anyone affected by providing information about what sexual assault is, support systems both within and separate from, school and family, and the processes you can go through when reporting or receiving support afterwards.

SASH will:

* Raise awareness surrounding sexual assault and consent.

* Collate and provide information surrounding support following sexual assault.

* Help students seek support, and help them understand what options they have.

* Provide safe contacts and local organisations, both inside and outside of school, including services that are free of charge.

* Input into school curriculum around consent and sexual harm.

By raising awareness and educating people on sexual assault, we hope to be able to eventually stop sexual violence that is often normalised and prevalent in our culture. Giving both those affected by abuse, and their supporters, as much transparency around who they can contact, what help is available, and specific processes, can hopefully help them find some clarity and choice about how they would like to proceed.

SASH won’t:

* Counsel students.

* Tell a student what they should do.  We will have commonly asked questions and provide access to people who can answer any questions we can’t. We are not trained professionals, we are simply students working to create change.

Please note: If a student did disclose an event to a SASH member, that member would be required to seek advice from a WHS guidance counsellor.

Students can go to Student Services and ask to see a counsellor. These are registered health nurses that visit Wakatipu High School on a weekly basis to offer health advice, assessments, and referrals. You can meet with them to discuss any personal concerns or issues you may have in a confidential manner. They can talk to you about a range of subjects, including medical conditions, physical, sexual, and mental health, substance abuse, contraception, and gender diversity. Clinics are confidential and free and they are able to refer you to other services if required. They are at school during ako times on Monday and Friday.
