Health and Physical Education at WHS gives students the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand, manage, and advocate for their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. Students will learn to move with skill and confidence, work with others, make informed decisions, and participate actively in communities and local environments. This all contributes towards developing an understanding of how to look after your physical, mental and social wellbeing.
Years 9 and 10
Movement instruction becomes more specialised, with students applying skills across different roles, environments, and physical activities. They learn how training and preparation affect performance, and develop the tactical and physical knowledge to engage confidently in a wide range of sports and physical activities.
Students will build deeper knowledge about how bodies change and how health decisions influence physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. Students will develop their understanding of topics such as nutrition, substance use, positive relationships, sexual health, and media influence.
Years 11 to 13
Building on earlier learning, students can select to further study Health Education, Physical Education, or Outdoor Education.
Students will engage with increasingly complex concepts, investigate real-world health and physical activity issues, and develop the skills to analyse and evaluate the factors that shape individual and collective wellbeing. Students explore how social, cultural, environmental, and political factors influence health outcomes and physical participation, and learn to advocate for positive change in their communities.
These skills and experiences support pathways into tertiary study and careers in sport and recreation, nursing, medicine, counselling, education, social work, psychology and public health.
Active, informed, and compassionate: these are the qualities we nurture in every student. How we move, connect, and care for ourselves and each other matters deeply, and our students leave WHS knowing that.
