Wakatipu High School has an amazing group of volunteer coaches, managers and contributors to sport. They include parents of students, ex-students, members of the community, and teaching and support staff.
Our volunteers are passionate about our vision of growing better people through sport, and work alongside rangatahi to improve and deliver sporting opportunities for young people in the Wakatipu Basin. Our coaches and volunteers are invaluable.
If you would like to get involved in coaching or managing a sport at WHS, please contact the Director of Sport. We welcome people from all walks of life who share our vision and want to contribute to the sporting experiences of secondary school students.
Police Vetting
Like many sporting organisations and schools, WHS requires all volunteers involved in sport to be police vetted. There is no shared database for this, so each organisation asks its volunteers to complete the police vetting form and show two forms of ID in person. This means coaches and managers must be vetted through Wakatipu High School. For more information and the forms, email the Sports Department.
Coach and Manager Induction Agreement
All coaches and managers complete the WHS Coach and Manager Induction Agreement. Ask the Sports Department for the current agreement.

- WHS Vision for Sport and The Wakatipu Way: the vision should underpin all coaching at WHS, and coaches are expected to hold players to the standards in The Wakatipu Way on and off the field. Read the vision and values.
Balance is Better
Balance is Better is an evidence-based philosophy that underpins Sport NZ's approach to youth sport. It is about creating quality experiences for all young people to keep them active and in the game. WHS supports this approach and encourages all coaches to explore the resources on the Balance is Better website. It is free to sign up.
The site includes three key guides: the 9 Balance is Better Principles, Coaching with a Balance is Better philosophy, and Youth sport: how much is too much?
