Parents and Whānau members are the biggest influencers:

As a parent, guardian and whānau member you play a significant role in ensuring your child, our rangatahi, gain the best information, advice and guidance to prepare them for life beyond Wakatipu High School. We encourage you to take an active role in your child’s Careers Education.  Understanding the changes in the Labour Market is equally as important as knowing the education providers that are available, as it is this information about the growth and changing dynamics of the workplace and future industry trends that may help develop and support a successful career for your child.

StudyLink helps students make informed decisions about their tertiary student finance, how to apply for it and manage it online. This is where you can find out about and apply for Student Loans and Student Allowances. In order to register, you will need certain information and documentation, such as your IRD number, bank account details and parents’ income details and evidence (for Student Allowance applications).

Tahatū (Careers NZ) is one of the most useful websites for anyone exploring potential career options.  Here you can find information on over 400 different roles/jobs/vocations, including what the work involves, key skills and aptitudes, earning potential, availability of work, training & qualification requirements with links to different training providers, entry requirements, and so on.  There are also lots of useful tools for getting career ideas, creating your CV, tips on finding work, etc.

CareerCentral is an online digital platform that you can log into using your KAMAR username and login that access the CareersNZ jobs database and also has some other useful features. You can build up a personal profile with your own unique skills, strengths and interests, as well as keep track of jobs/careers that interest you in your Job Bank. Jobs are also linked to current advertisements on TradeMe, which can really help you explore the employment prospects in a particular field.
