Sporting excellence at WHS is widely celebrated at our annual summer and winter sports assemblies and at our Sports Blues Awards night.
Over the years, multiple athletes have succeeded on the national and international stage in a variety of sports, including at the Youth Winter Olympics and World Cup snowsports events. WHS is proud to have a number of New Zealand representatives and title holders, as well as regional title holders.
Sporting Blues
The Blues Awards are an important event in our annual calendar. They celebrate excellence, achievement, service and leadership across sports at Wakatipu High School. A Blues award is the highest honour we can give students who have excelled in sport.
Awards
Students can receive Achievement Blues each year for success at regional, South Island and national level. Service Blues are awarded once in a student's time at WHS and recognise a multi-year commitment to coaching or umpiring. An Outstanding Blue is awarded rarely, and only to students who achieve at national or international level.
Bruce Grant Memorial Scholarships
The Bruce Grant Trust donates funds to the youth of the Wakatipu to help them in their sporting, cultural and artistic endeavours, and has supported WHS for over 20 years. This award recognises students who have overcome adversity, persevered and shown the WHS value of resilience while pursuing their sporting and artistic dreams.
