Payments

WHS operates a "pay to play" system. Costs cover entry and affiliation fees, transport, accommodation, uniforms and equipment. Some sports, like rugby and netball, have yearly subs, while others need one-off payments for individual events.

WHS has a strict "no pay, no play" policy. Payment is due before a student can take part in weekly competitions or attend an event. WHS forms have a pay-upfront system, so you can pay when you complete the permission or registration form. You can pay by POLi (bank-to-bank transfer) or debit/credit card. There is also a "Pay Later" option if you are accessing the Āwhina Fund (see below), are on a part-payment plan, or want to pay directly into the WHS bank account.

Refund Policy

We know life is changeable and plans can be disrupted for many reasons. WHS operates on a "pay to play" basis so all costs are covered before a trip departs. If a student withdraws from an event, these terms apply:

• If WHS or the sporting organisation cancels a trip, you get a full refund, less any costs already incurred that cannot be refunded, and transaction fees.
• If a student cannot attend a trip for other reasons (including illness, injury or other commitments), you are still liable for any costs already incurred, unless a replacement student can be found in time to cover them.
• Refunds are at the discretion of the Sports Department and depend on the cost and nature of the trip and the reason for withdrawal.

Fundraising

Some sports fundraise to support their sport or reduce the cost of attending events. We strongly encourage players and parents to take part in fundraising during the year.

Financial Support and Āwhina Fund

Families sometimes need help meeting the costs of school life, including taking part in sport.

WHS runs the Āwhina Fund (āwhina is the Māori word for "help"). It helps families cover the costs of almost any part of school life, such as uniform, BYOD devices and extra-curricular trips. The Āwhina Fund is supported by the WHS Foundation. Please note: retrospective funding will not be considered.
