Blazer
Is the compulsory ‘primary’ garment. It must be worn to and from school and during the school day. Blazers are compulsory from March but are encouraged to be worn all year. Students may remove the blazer whilst in class or when active during break times. The blazer must also be worn to all formal school events, such as prizegiving regardless of the month of the year.

School Tie
Must be worn year-round by Year 11-13 students. The tie is compulsory for formal events such as assemblies and prizegivings. Year 9-12 students must wear the school tie, and Year 13 students must wear that year’s Year 13 tie. The tie is optional in February for junior students.

Shirt
White collared shirt - short or long sleeve. There are pleated hemmed shirts available or a more business style shirt (which must be worn tucked in).

Blue Kilt/Blue Shirt
The blue skirt may be worn year round with the navy ankle socks. The blue kilt, modelled in the photo, may also be worn year round with either navy tights or navy knee-high socks.

Shorts/Trousers
Grey shorts or grey trousers may be worn year round.

Belt
Must be plain black leather with a plain silver buckle.

Socks
Navy ankle socks must be worn with the blue skirt, trousers or shorts. Navy tights or knee-high socks must be worn with WHS kilts. Navy Socks (3 pair pack) are available at the WHS Uniform shop in-school.

Shoes
Must be: plain; all black (with no coloured logos); be made of polishable material (i.e. not canvas, but may have a rubber toe-cap);  have a low or no heel; be shoes, not boots or ‘high tops’. They may be lace-up or slip-on, with no buckles. Please note: The Uniform Shop does not sell shoes.

Optional Items
  • School jersey - is an optional 'secondary' item which is  worn under the blazer,  and may be worn year round.
It may not be worn instead of the blazer.
  • School scarf and beanie - may be worn year round.
  • Puffer Jackets - students may wear a plain black puffer jacket during June, July and/or August only. It must be worn over (not instead of) the blazer.
For clarification: Māori students can wear items that are taonga to them. This can include tā moko, pounamu or hei tiki. As these taonga are tapu (sacred), they can be worn visibly with traditional uniform items (e.g., wearing a hei tiki over a tie). Students can wear items of cultural or religious significance with uniform items (e.g. hijab, tā moko, le faitaga).

For students wanting to wear the likes of hijab and faitaga, we would prefer that they wear darker colours such as navy blue or black.

Should you wish to discuss an individual exception to the uniform then please contact a member of our Senior Leadership Team in the first instance.
